What is the brand name for Osimert 80 mg tablets?

Post by iebpharmacy »

Osimert 80 mg tablets contain the active ingredient Osimertinib, a third-generation epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) used in the treatment of specific types of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Osimertinib targets both EGFR-sensitizing mutations and the T790M resistance mutation, which are common in patients who have developed resistance to first- and second-generation EGFR inhibitors.

Indications:

Osimertinib is indicated for the treatment of patients with metastatic EGFR T790M mutation-positive NSCLC, as detected by an FDA-approved test, who have progressed on or after EGFR TKI therapy.

Dosage and Administration:

The recommended dosage of Osimert 80 mg (Osimertinib) taken orally once daily, with or without food. If a dose is missed, it should not be made up; the next dose should be taken as scheduled. For patients who have difficulty swallowing tablets, the tablet can be dispersed in 60 ml of non-carbonated water, stirred until dispersed into small pieces, and swallowed immediately. The container should then be rinsed with 120 ml to 240 ml of water, which should also be consumed immediately. This dispersion can also be administered via a nasogastric tube if necessary.

Side Effects:

Common adverse reactions (occurring in 20% or more of patients) include diarrhea, rash, dry skin, nail toxicity, stomatitis, fatigue, and decreased appetite.

Precautions:

Patients should be monitored for interstitial lung disease/pneumonitis, QTc interval prolongation, and cardiomyopathy. Osimertinib can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman; therefore, effective contraception should be used during treatment and for a period after the last dose. Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment with Osimertinib.

Drug Interactions:

Concomitant use of Osimertinib with strong CYP3A inhibitors (e.g., certain antibiotics, antifungals, antivirals) may increase Osimertinib plasma concentrations, while strong CYP3A inducers (e.g., phenytoin, rifampicin, carbamazepine) may decrease its plasma concentrations. Therefore, co-administration with these agents should be avoided if possible.

Storage:

Store Osimertinib tablets in a cool, dry place away from light, and keep them out of reach of children.

In Bangladesh, Osimertinib is available under various brand names, including Osimert by Everest Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Osicent by Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd., and Osimatab by Eskayef Pharmaceuticals Ltd. The availability of these brands provides options for patients and healthcare providers in selecting appropriate therapy.

It's important to note that while Osimertinib offers a targeted approach to treating certain types of NSCLC, it is associated with potential side effects and requires careful monitoring. Patients should have thorough discussions with their healthcare providers to understand the benefits and risks associated with this therapy.
